How this generator works
Most real summer schedules don't replace the regular rotation — they keep it running, with each parent able to claim a number of vacation weeks that override it. Pick your regular pattern, set the summer date range, then add as many vacation weeks as you've agreed to, assigning each one to a parent. Where a vacation week overlaps what the regular rotation would otherwise give the other parent, the vacation week wins.
There's no universal rule for how many vacation weeks is normal, or whether they need to be consecutive — that's entirely up to what your family (or your court order) specifies. This tool doesn't assume an answer; it just applies whatever you tell it.
Nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere — it's generated in your browser. See the regular schedule generator for the rotation alone, or the holiday schedule generator for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and more.
FAQ
Is this a legal document?
No. This tool produces a calendar for planning and communication, not a court filing. If you need a parenting plan for a legal proceeding, ask your attorney or mediator what format the court requires.
Can vacation weeks overlap each other?
If two vacation weeks you enter overlap in dates, the one listed later in the form takes priority for those overlapping days. Keep an eye on the calendar output to make sure that's what you intended.
What if our summer schedule doesn't use vacation weeks at all?
Leave the vacation-weeks section empty and the regular rotation applies the whole way through — use this the same way as the standard generator, just scoped to your summer dates.
Does the .ics file work with Apple and Google Calendar?
Yes. Download it, then open it (Apple Calendar) or import it from Settings → Import (Google Calendar). It adds one event per continuous block — regular rotation or vacation — named for the parent whose time it is.
